The RT Nagar police in Bengaluru have recently captured a 34-year-old waiter who had been in hiding for almost 14 years for the alleged murder of his friend. The accused, R John, was located with the help of a gas agency connection to his family and the leads from the long pending case. The murder took place on August 22, 2011, when John and his associates are believed to have killed 20-year-old Chetan in Ganganagar area of Bengaluru. The alleged killing is said to have been done in retaliation for a past enmity. While three of John’s associates, Chaati Raja, Arun, and Manikanta, were caught earlier, John could not be caught and had to run. After the crime, John first went to Tirupati and worked as a waiter for six years. Then, he went to Hoskote and worked in different local hotels for more than seven years to avoid police. The change was made following the discovery of a police record of a gas connection under a family member’s Aadhaar card. It was from there that the police went to Andhra Pradesh, and some locals told the police that John had come back to Bengaluru recently. Though he was not living with his family, he was in touch with them which helped the police to catch him. He is currently in police custody and is to be produced before a court to face charges for a crime he committed 14 years ago.
