A tragic bus accident near Bengaluru airport on Tuesday afternoon left one dead and 34 others injured after a staff bus carrying private company employees overturned at the CISF signal in Begur, near Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The deceased, Santosh Yadav, 35, was a roller operator for Ashoka Buildcon and hailed from Rampur Chaubey in Uttar Pradesh. The bus driver, Nazeer Ahmed, 38, was also among the injured.
According to police reports, the vehicle was carrying around 40 employees who were deployed at the western crossfield taxiway project at KIA. The accident occurred at 12:56 pm while the bus was en route from the airport to a paying guest facility in Kadayarappanahalli for lunch. As it approached Galamma Circle and took a free left turn at the CISF signal, the driver allegedly lost control while speeding, causing the bus to veer into the rightmost lane, hit a divider, overturn, and skid nearly 10 metres.
Of the injured, nine were rushed to Manipal Hospital in Hebbal, while 25 others were admitted to Akash Hospital in Devanahalli, where Yadav was declared dead. One passenger has since been discharged, while one remains in critical condition and two are in intensive care.
Police have registered a case under BNS sections for rash driving, endangering life, and causing death by negligence. The accident caused a traffic disruption for nearly an hour before authorities cleared the wreckage using a crane.
