The man accused of the brutal murder of a 24-year-old woman in a Bengaluru hostel was arrested in Madhya Pradesh today and will be brought back to Bengaluru for further investigation, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand confirmed to NDTV.
The victim, Kriti Kumari, a native of Bihar, was staying at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in the busy Koramangala area of Bengaluru. On Tuesday night, around 11 pm, a man armed with a knife entered the hostel and fatally attacked her. He slit her throat before fleeing the scene.
Sources indicate that the suspect is the boyfriend of Kumari’s roommate. There had been ongoing conflicts between the suspect and the roommate, often centered around his unemployment. When arguments escalated, Kumari frequently intervened, advising her roommate to distance herself from the man. This advice allegedly angered the suspect, who then targeted Kumari in a fit of rage.
The horrific incident was captured on CCTV footage from the hostel. The video shows the suspect knocking on Kumari’s door and, once inside, dragging her into the corridor. He then pinned her against the wall and, despite her resistance, repeatedly stabbed her in the neck before escaping. Other residents, alerted by the commotion, quickly called the police.
In response to the crime, the Bengaluru police have formed three dedicated teams to expedite the investigation and apprehend the suspect. Commissioner Dayanand emphasized that efforts are being intensified to ensure justice for the victim.
