Bengaluru was stunned after a video of an auto driver slicing a cartridge-shaped birthday cake with a machete went viral, prompting police action. The bizarre celebration took place in Gudibande, Chikkaballapur, where Anil Kumar, a resident of Vychukurahalli, celebrated his birthday with friends and family on May 31.
The party was ordinary until Kumar pulled out a machete instead of a knife to cut a cake styled like a bullet cartridge. Cheers erupted, but the viral video triggered swift police response. Gudibande police booked Kumar under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Though he had no prior criminal record, Kumar was arrested and fined ₹1,000 by the court.
Bengaluru police also issued a show-cause notice, requiring Kumar to sign a bond to avoid future antisocial acts. Authorities are clamping down on celebratory acts involving weapons due to public safety concerns.
This isn’t Bengaluru’s first case. A similar incident involved Kannada actor ‘Duniya’ Vijay, who used a sword during his birthday, leading to police action. Officials warn that over-the-top celebrations could disrupt public peace and will not be tolerated.
