Karnataka Minister’s Initiative
Karnataka Agriculture Minister, N Chaluvaraya Swamy, has put forth an important proposal. He wants to establish a knowledge city in Bengaluru as a tribute to former Chief Minister SM Krishna. This initiative aims to honor Krishna’s significant contributions to the state, particularly in the field of technology.
Honoring a Key Figure
SM Krishna passed away on Tuesday at the age of 92. His death followed a prolonged illness. He was a pivotal figure in Karnataka’s growth, especially in the IT and biotechnology sectors. Swamy believes that creating a knowledge city would be a fitting way to recognize Krishna’s impact on the region.
In a statement to the media, Swamy praised Krishna for his tremendous contributions to Karnataka’s development. Swamy noted Krishna’s role in transforming Bengaluru into an IT hub. “He was a great leader and brought in the IT developments for Bengaluru,” Swamy said. He plans to write to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister about the proposal.
A Sad Loss for the State
Swamy took to social media to express his sorrow over the news of Krishna’s passing. He described it as an irreparable loss for both state and national politics. “Deeply saddened by the demise of former Chief Minister, a stalwart leader, former foreign minister, and an efficient administrator,” Swamy wrote. He emphasized the significant impact Krishna had on the political landscape of Karnataka and India as a whole.
Celebrating Krishna’s Leadership
Swamy reflected on Krishna’s leadership style and abilities. He praised him as a rare model leader. He called Krishna a gentleman politician and an outstanding orator. Swamy emphasized that Krishna played a visionary role in shaping Bengaluru’s IT and biotechnology sectors. “His visionary contribution to the development of Bangalore’s IT and BT industries, upliftment, and creation of employment opportunities is memorable,” he added.
A Political Journey
SM Krishna served as Karnataka’s Chief Minister from 1999 until 2004. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the state’s development and progress. Following his time as Chief Minister, he held several important positions. He served as the External Affairs Minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government from 2009 to 2012. Later, he became the Governor of Maharashtra.
In March 2017, he made a significant political shift. Krishna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ending a nearly 50-year association with the Indian National Congress. Last year, he retired from active politics.
The Impact of the Knowledge City
The proposal to create a knowledge city in SM Krishna’s name is significant. It seeks to create a lasting legacy that showcases his contributions to Karnataka’s growth. Such a city would aim to promote education, technology, and innovation.
It would serve as a collaborative hub for professionals across various fields, especially in technology and research. The knowledge city would focus on fostering new ideas and developments. Swamy envisions this city as a symbol of Krishna’s commitment to progress and modernity.
Mourning and Remembering
As Karnataka mourns the loss of a beloved leader, the idea of a knowledge city stands out. It represents a step towards honoring Krishna’s memory and vision. The city would be a reminder of his contributions to shaping Bengaluru into an IT powerhouse.
The proposal reflects the sentiment of many who admired Krishna’s commitment to development. It shows the collective desire to keep his legacy alive.
